Georgia Gold Locations

The places listed below are user submitted gold prospecting locations. Things change over time - these places may or may not still be open. Be sure to fill your holes, pick up your trash and don't trespass. We are losing good spots all the time.

We really need more info on this state! If you know of any other prospecting locations in this or surrounding areas, please fill out this form. What we need here are fairly specific places like "downstream from where Highway 20 crosses Dry Creek". There are lots of books that say something like "The gold belt runs through ABC & XYZ Counties" or "Gold has been found in ABC River and some of its tributaries". That really doesn't say much about where YOU can find gold, private property issues or Forest Circus rules etc. Please use this form only for suggesting fairly specific places to be added to this page where new prospectors or folks visiting from other areas have a good chance of finding gold. Thank you

Fairly specfic place where folks can find gold:

From Helen Miller, Texas
We visited Georgia this past year and panned for gold. We went to the Parks and Wildlife Department and they told us that we could pan for gold in any National Forest. We could not dredge but we could do all the panning we wanted. If we dug we were expected to fill all holes back and leave the area as we found it. We enjoyed it so much that we are now planning another trip in the early summer.

We stayed in Blairsville in some vacation cotteges. We traveled south on 19 to Dahlonega. We took another route one day, from 19 we took 129 toward Cleveland and we found a look out that had a wooden walk way down to the Chestatee(??) river and traveled north on the river and panned there. The people we were visiting son had sent us there. He had found about $600.00 worth of the yellow gold but he ran a different kind of equipment than we did. We only panned.

The people in Dahlonega told us about the Chattahoochee river and we panned under a state highway bridge just past the Pizza Hut in Dahlonega. Some luck but not a great deal. We sure did have a lot of fun and can't wait to go back.
